Captive documentation

Captive turns the guest WiFi on your UniFi gateway into an email list. Guests joining your guest network are redirected to a branded portal, enter their email address, and are let onto the internet. You keep every address — exportable as CSV, over a REST API, or pushed to your systems by webhook.

How it works

1. Connect your gateway. Captive talks to your UniFi console (Dream Machine / Cloud Gateway) with a local admin login you create. No extra hardware, no firmware changes.
2. Auto-configure the portal. One click sets the gateway's hotspot portal to external-portal mode pointing at your Captive portal page.
3. Brand the portal. Logo, background, colors, text, and terms — with a live preview.
4. Capture every guest. Each signup records the email, device, access point, and network, and the guest is authorized online automatically.
